What Is The Cut Off Limit For The One Hour Glucose Challenge Test?

This entry was posted by on Thursday, 3 December, 2009

I had my one hour blood glucose challenge test this morning and my sugar when I left was 135 i was wondering what the cut off is, as in will 135 make me have to take the 3 hour one or no? I also know that finger sticks can be as much as15 points higher than when the blood is drawn but any answers would be greatly appreciated! Thanks so much!

  1. 135 should be just fine. According to the American Diabetes Association, anyone with a blood sugar under 140 does not have GD. Anyone 140 and over requires additional testing.
If you have a family history of diabetes or fall into certain groups (such as Native Americans) who have high rates of diabetes, they may do a 3 hour test anyway as the 1 hour does not catch everybody. For instance, you can have a normal fasting or 1 hour test but a very high 2 or 3 hour. I’m just letting you know this because one gal on another board felt she was being scammed.

That’s up to your doctor, when they see the results. Before any glucose test you should have been fasting 8-10 hours before so they can ensure an accurate reading. If you did not fast, then most likely numbers will run high and you will have to do a 3 hour.

I think it is 140, but I might be wrong. Mine was close to that number so I had sugar problems with my first pregnancy
